Fort La Latte:
an extraordinary site…
Fort La Latte: a medieval castle overlooking the sea
Imagine a 14th-century fortified castle, built atop a cliff, surrounded by wild moorland on one side and the sea on the other, protected by two 60-metre-high natural crevasses that can only be crossed by two drawbridges.
That’s what we call an (almost) impregnable position! In fact, the English got their teeth into it in the 15th century. Restored in the 20th century, the fort retains all the power and austere beauty of its origins.
